TDW

TDW is the name under which singer, songwriter, producer and content-creator Tom de Wit releases his music. The music can be described as progressive, challenging metal with symphonic and avant-garde overtones. The music finds a ground between bombastic and dramatic metal outbursts, progressive rock like instrumental sections and intimate, melodic balladry that dives deep into emotional territory. The main idea was to let TDW be a studio project that releases albums, seperate songs and content along those lines online and so it was for the first couple of years.

During TDW’s career so far, multiple albums were released on both CD and digital formats. Starting with the debut conceptalbum The Haunts in 2008, followed up by the mammoth two-disc release Scrapbook in 2011, the first album remake First Re-Draft in late 2011, the diverse and explorative Music To Stand Around And Feel Awkward To in 2014 and (until now) finalized with the dark and dramatic album that was The Antithetic Affiliation in 2017. All these albums share a sound and feeling that is brought in by Tom’s songwriting and his unique voice, yet every album also has an identity of its own. Showing that the music written under the TDW name is not easily pinholed into one specific genre. Sometimes it’s metal, sometimes it’s prog, sometimes it’s symphonic, but it’s always TDW!

Tom also dabbled in videowork for TDW over the years. Tom always worked as an audio, video and website producer and he figured that video and audio could always be linked to great effect. Tom dabbled in trying to promote his work on his earlier albums by doing that, but never quite got it in the way he wanted it… It was in 2014 that Tom found a form that did work for him, and the TDW vlog and the first set of music videos were born. Originally, the vlog started out as a silly promotional tool to promote the album “Music To Stand…” using sockpuppets and silly stories to promote the album that was in the works. The music videos for the album were produced in tandem with another production But that changed after the album was done. The sockpuppets were retired and Tom took his own place in front and behind the camera. This filming work led to a host of different videos like album reviews, rants about subjects and even full scale documentaries. With the highlights being the documentary films that Tom made about the festivals Progpower & Be Prog My Friend respectively.

In 2016, an offer came to perform an acoustic set at Progpower Europe 2016 with the TDW music. From that invite, the band Dreamwalkers Inc was born which originally started out as “the TDW live band”. Dreamwalkers Inc played that Progpower Europe show with intent promoting both the album Antithetic Affiliation as well as showing that this was a band with staying power. The band evolved as time went on and finally grew into it’s own project with it’s own music written as a band in 2019. Starting with the re-release of the album First Re-Draft by the band instead of just Tom doing everything alone under the TDW name.

However, while Dreamwalkers Inc took off, Tom kept writing and creating. It was also immediately clear that when Dreamwalkers Inc seperated itself from TDW to become more a band affair, TDW would keep existing. Because as long as Tom wants to create and write the music, lyrics or videos that he does TDW will be alive. After quitting his older vlogs in 2018 due to a lack of time, Tom re-started his vlog in 2020 with bi-weekly installments. In this new vlog he is doing all sorts of different things such as rants about specific creative subjects, music reviews and also interviews with musicians that Tom wants to talk to. Next to this the creative writing process of new TDW music is going strong and Tom is now releasing metal covers of famous popsongs on his youtube channel, as well as releasing brand new original songs with videos on there that showcase the diversity of Tom’s songwriting.
