KOYO zijn Huw Edwards (zang, gitaar), Jacob Price (sampling, synthesizers), Dan Comlay (bas), Seb Knee-Wright (gitaar) en Tom Higham (drums).

KOYO, opgericht in Leeds in 2015, is snel een belangrijke factor geworden in de snelgroeiende muziekscene van de stad.

KOYO, een krachtige liveband, creëert een sonische bril door stijgende geluidslagen. Nummers worden uitgebreide improvisaties, spontane uitingen van emotie. Op basis van hun elektrische live-optreden werden ze geselecteerd om de BBC Introducing Stage te openen op de Reading- en Leeds-festivals van 2017, wat resulteerde in een vermelding in de Guardian Online-recensie. In 2018 volgden ze met veelgeprezen optredens op Rockaway Beach Festival, Live at Leeds, Camden Rocks, Sheffield Tramlines en Download festival.

Hun gelijknamige debuutalbum werd in september 2017 met lovende kritieken uitgebracht en ontving uitstekende persrecensies in Q, DORK, CLASH, Classic Rock, Planet Rock, God Is In The TV, PROG en Louder than War. Het album maakte ook de Top 25-albums van 2017 in Classic Rock, PROG en Louder than War, respectievelijk op # 24, # 19 en # 21. Dit leidde ertoe dat de band te zien was op Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 Music-show, waar hij ze live interviewde als onderdeel van Independent Venue Week. Ze kregen ook opmerkelijke aantekeningen van Killing Joke en Napalm Death.

Na succesvol nieuw materiaal op de weg te hebben getest tijdens hun tour in september van 2018, kwamen ze in februari 2019 opnieuw de studio binnen met producenten Tom Orrell en Mike Horner (Hot Chip, Everything Everything, Franz Ferdinand). Dit resulteerde in stand-alone single “Before”, evenals “Circles” en “Ostracized”, de eerste twee singles van hun nieuwe tweede album.

A powerful live force, KOYO create sonic spectacles through soaring layers of sound. Songs become extended improvisations, spontaneous expressions of emotion. Based on their electric live performance they were selected to open the BBC Introducing Stage at the 2017 Reading and Leeds festivals, the latter resulting in a mention in the Guardian Online review. In 2018, they followed up with critically acclaimed performances at Rockaway Beach Festival, Live at Leeds, Camden Rocks, Sheffield Tramlines and Download festival.

Their eponymous debut album was released in September 2017 to critical acclaim, receiving outstanding press reviews in Q, DORK, CLASH, Classic Rock, Planet Rock, God Is In The TV, PROG and Louder than War. The album also made the Top 25 albums of 2017 in Classic Rock, PROG and Louder than War, at #24, #19 and #21 respectively. This led to the band being featured on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 Music show, where he interviewed them live as part of Independent Venue Week. They also as received remarkable endorsements from Killing Joke and Napalm Death.

Having successfully road-tested stunning new material on their 2018 September tour, they re-entered the studio in February 2019 with producers Tom Orrell and Mike Horner (Hot Chip, Everything Everything, Franz Ferdinand). This resulted in stand alone single “Before”, as well as “Circles” and “Ostracised”, the first two singles taken from their new second album.
