Lifesigns are a British prog rock outfit first conceived by keyboardist and composer John Young and producer Steve Rispin in 2008. Young had spent the majority of his career touring, playing, and co-writing with the likes of Bonnie Tyler, Fish, and Uli John Roth, as well as heading his own group, the John Young Band. Wanting to pay tribute to the classic prog sound of the ’70s and beyond, Young drafted Rispin to help realize the project, alongside bassist Nick Beggs — who’d also played with the likes of China Crisis and Then Jerico, and was a founder member of Kajagoogoo — and former Cutting Crew drummer Frosty Beedle. Beginning in 2010, Lifesigns set about recording over the next two years, with their eponymously titled debut album appearing in 2013. The following year, the group headed into the live arena in support of the release, although due to other commitments Beggs was replaced on bass by Cardiacs and Wildhearts guitarist Jon Poole. The Live in London: Under the Bridge DVD, recorded over two nights at the beginning of 2015, was released later that year. Young and company reentered the studio to record their sophomore album in mid-2017 after a successful crowdfunding campaign at the end of 2016. The resulting Cardington, which once again saw them paying tribute to classic British prog rock, is available now.
